St Luke’s Combined Hospices | Every moment counts

Bringing life and loving care to terminally ill patients, St Luke’s Combined Hospices believes in making every moment count.
Providing palliative care to terminally ill patients since 1980, St Luke’s Combined Hospices (SLCH) is focused on quality of life. By making every moment count — even when they are numbered — SLCH brings life and loving care to over 650 patients a day.
There are times when a disease no longer responds to curative treatment, and when a terminally ill patient needs more than just relief from physical pain. SLCH is not a place where people only go to die; it’s about creating a caring and compassionate environment.
Its palliative care approach involves specialised medical care, psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement support to the patient and their family. As well as reducing pain, it helps manage symptoms of life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses to improve the quality of life for both patient and family. And this support is given — irrespective of a patient’s ability to pay for the service —with no barriers to race, religion, culture or creed.
Celebrating 41 years in 2021, SLCH continues to rely on donations to offer this support. Providing palliative care in the larger Cape Town area, it relies on funds to cover salaries for professional and psychosocial staff, medication for patients, PPE, In-patient units and home- based care which also includes meals and toiletries.
