Helping uncover every student’s potential, Khanyisa Development Centre is focused on special needs education that builds strengths and changes lives.
Caring for children with varying special needs, aged 2-15, Khanyisa Developmental Centre believes all children have strengths and potential — and the team is passionate about uncovering them.
It provides integrative intervention within classroom environments, in small groups at the centre in Durban, KZN. And despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Khanyisa’s dedicated team has continued to provide individual sessions on siteor at home, along with online sessions, depending on each family’s preference.
The mission of Khanyisa is to uncover our students potential every day and raise awareness for the future of special needs education. To do this, it relies on fundraising, sponsorships and community support to offer addition resources for therapy, stationery packs and assistive devices.
Zakiyya is a 6-year old girl diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. When she joined Khanyisa she was unable to walk, interact, play or initiate much movement. After four years — with the help of Khanyisa’s amazing occupational therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists and wonderful teachers —Zakiyya can now walk with minimal facilitation, play and interact with her friends.
“There are no words that I can use to praise Khanyisa enough. When I enrolled Zakiyya at the age of 2, I would drop her off at school and then sob all morning. But to date, it’s undoubtedly the best decision that I could’ve made for my daughter.“ — Mariam Pandor, Zakiyya’s mother.
