Celebrating 60 years of giving, the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest sees 2020 as yet another opportunity to spread more joy.
The joy truly is in the giving. And this year, the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest turned its 60th anniversary celebrations into a wonderful opportunity to spread even more joy.
The Community Chest had no idea they’d be celebrating sixty years of community service in a year that’s seen the economy hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. But in true giving style, the organisation thought there’d be no better way to see in their anniversary by doubling down to bring relief and hope to so many in the wake of hunger, job loss and despondency.
The mission of the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest is focused on galvanising support of business, private individuals, donor organisations and workplace employees, to achieve it’s vision of enhanced communities – restored hope.
Despite the hardships encountered because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Chest remains firm in it’s commitment to mitigate hunger, promote food security, and offer shelter to the most vulnerable community members. Together with impact partners, it helps distribute food parcels, fund the essential services of two children’s homes, support the work of a shelter for the homeless and fund skills acquisition by people from indigent households to manage the use of food gardens, electricity and water, for sustainable living.
